Discover Zilla Pizza

Walking into Zilla Pizza for the first time, the smell of fresh dough and bubbling cheese hits before the door even swings shut. Sitting right off 8018 US-52, Ansonville, NC 28007, United States, this diner-style pizza spot feels like the kind of place locals quietly protect as their own. I stopped by on a Friday evening after hearing repeated best pizza in Anson County comments from coworkers, and the parking lot already told a story-pickup trucks, families, and a steady stream of takeout orders.

The menu keeps things refreshingly simple without feeling limited. You’ll find classic hand-tossed pies, loaded specialty pizzas, wings, subs, and a handful of comfort-food sides. What stood out to me immediately was how customizable everything felt. The staff actually listens when you ask for light sauce or extra crisp crust, which sounds small but makes a big difference. According to the National Restaurant Association, more than 70% of diners value customization when ordering pizza, and this place clearly gets that right in practice.

I ordered a large pepperoni pizza with extra cheese and added jalapeños, something I’ve tested at dozens of pizza joints over the years. The crust here lands in that rare sweet spot-soft inside, slightly crunchy on the outside, and sturdy enough to hold toppings without sagging. The sauce tastes balanced rather than overly sweet, which lines up with what many chefs recommend: tomatoes, salt, and acidity doing the heavy lifting instead of sugar. A quick chat with the owner confirmed they use a slow-simmered sauce method, giving flavors time to develop naturally.

One thing that keeps coming up in reviews is consistency, and that matters more than hype. I came back a second time two weeks later, ordered the same pizza, and it tasted identical. That’s not easy to pull off in a small restaurant. Food science research from Cornell University shows that repeatable preparation processes directly affect customer trust, and this place clearly follows a tight system in the kitchen.

The wings deserve their own moment. Cooked until crispy, tossed generously, and served hot, they’re not an afterthought. I tried the mild sauce, and it leaned more savory than spicy, making it easy to pair with pizza without overpowering it. For families or groups, this balance works well, especially when ordering a mix of items.

What really sells the experience, though, is the atmosphere. It’s casual, friendly, and unapologetically local. During my visits, I saw staff greeting customers by name and asking about their kids’ ball games. That kind of connection doesn’t happen by accident. The CDC often notes that community-based dining spaces contribute positively to social well-being, and this spot feels like proof of that in real life.

Reviews online consistently mention fair prices, generous portions, and quick service. While peak hours can mean a short wait, it never felt chaotic. One limitation worth noting is seating-it’s cozy rather than spacious, so large groups may want to call ahead or plan for takeout. Still, the location makes pickup easy, especially for anyone driving through Ansonville.

Between the thoughtfully built menu, reliable execution, and genuine hospitality, this diner delivers more than just pizza. It offers a dependable place where flavor, comfort, and community intersect, and that’s something you don’t stumble across every day.

  • I would have given 5 stars but they got my order wrong and it was sooooooo hot :( Even though they got my order wrong I'm sure they would have fixed it but there was no need , the food was delicious and I ate what was served to me . I really would think it would have been more busy. The food really is great but it was empty which was nice for me and my family ..

  • I have eaten every pizza on the menu. Some I thought, now that's a weird combination but tried it anyway. I have loved all of Zilla's specialty pizzas. Stromboli is huge I can only eat half of a small one. Service is great and everyone friendly and accommodating. Ask the girls they will tell you their favorite. Only issue I have is if you are a decaffeinated person like me, your drink choices are orange Kistler and lemonade. Maybe it's just me but neither taste good with pizza. Wish they had Stary or Sprite or even Root beer. Other than my decaf issue Zilla gets a triple AAA rating from me

  • I work for a local company and had the honor of picking a restaurant to cater our lunch. Zilla’s was the first place out of my mouth because it’s close and the food hits every single time. They’re my family’s personal favorite. We ordered Baked Ziti, Chicken Alfredo, Lasagna, Salads, Garlic Knots, and Cannoli. This fed around 40 people. They DEVOURED it. It was so delicious, the CEO of our company came by my office to tell me how much he enjoyed lunch today and it was a great choice. The workers were so kind and loaded the food in my car for me. I can’t emphasize enough how delicious this food was. They were ready on time, and the food was piping hot. 10/10 WILL order again. Zilla’s NEVER lets us down. Side note: this was the first time I’d ever had Zilla’s pastas. My family normally orders pizza and the Birria Pizza is our favorite. The BBQ Mac and Cheese is also a family favorite in my house. Thank you Zilla’s!!!!

With our family if six, it was devoured so fast lol I've never had a pizza where you can taste the effort & love put in each order! Definitely a favorite for our house! The customer service is amazing also!

  • Service was g great! The chicken bruschetta pizza was great. I was expecting to have to find good pizza in Charlotte after my move to the area but I'm happy to find something local and rural that has fresh basil and fresh tomato on a pizza. The crust was delicious. I don't think the description had mentioned balsamic glaze, but that was a great addition.
